Hidden Gems – Made to Awe Gallery Gao Shan: grand opening exhibition
2.11. 2018 – 10. 12. 2018
Works by four significant Finnish jewelry designers adorn the opening exhibition of the new Gao Shan gallery that specialises in jewelry art and design. Exhibition Hidden Gems – Made to Awe features jewelry artists Eero Hintsanen, Chao-Hsien Kuo, Heli Kauhanen and Harri Syrjänen. Jewelry creations and visual created by Ding Yi tell stories about life here in Finland.
Showcasing the present and past of Finnish jewelry design side-by-side is the idea here. Already when part of the Russian empire, Finnish goldsmiths were creating the world famous Fabergé eggs. Between 1950s and 1970s the former capital Turku was the cradle of Finnish jewelry design. Today this field is unfortunately asleep. It requires action to keep this field is alive.
Displayed in the jewelry-cum-art gallery and concept store here at Korkeavuorenkatu 5, Helsinki, are the works of rising stars in the field of Finnish jewelry design as well as established names.
Before the gallery GAo ShAn was established, two online exhibitions on Finnish jewelry design titled "Hidden Gems” took place during two Helsinki Design Weeks curated by “Vintage Finland” on Instagram. The exhibitions were "Hidden Gems - faces and special items" and "Hidden Gems - faces and special items" volume 2 which was arranged more or less in the form of Finnish vintage jewelry research and showcase blog. In this November, jewelry curator Ding Yi decided to transform the Vintage Finland Instagram account into a real, cornerstone gallery.
